kiʻi pōhaku shirt
Carl FK Pao
Aupuni Space x SPF Projects
Facing the imminent destruction of 729 Auahi Street and much of Kakaʻako as we know it, we look back on SPF Projects’ exhibition PEWA II, which ran from May 8 to June 8, 2014. For this exhibition, Carl F.K. Pao carved six kiʻi around a piko into the concrete floor. These kiʻi pōhaku have since become integral to every exhibition and gathering at SPF Projects and later at Aupuni Space.
Ten years later, on June 14, 2024, Carl paid a visit to the space. Together with a group of close friends, created these rubbings.
These garments commemorate the throughline of held space and the enduring support for contemporary artists of Hawaiʻi nei, from SPF Projects to Aupuni Space.
