Tone Glow and multi.projects are excited to present a showcase of ten short films highlighting the current landscape of experimental film in South Korea. Featuring films by Heehyun Choi, Hyo In Kwak, Chae Yu, Go-eun Im, Hyeisoo Kim, Luuk Schröder, Jiyong In, Park Kyujae, Il-hwan, and Chul-woong Jang.

The past few years have been a renaissance in Korea’s experimental film scene. Younger filmmakers have created innovative works on analog film, and founded organizations such as the film collective Lothringen, which staged the inaugural ABBFF Byeongyeong Film Festival in 2024, and Sorigrim, which has hosted numerous screenings since their founding last year. The latter is a venue for this year’s EXiS, one of the largest experimental film and video festivals in Asia, held in Seoul.

Some films in this showcase were recently shown at EXiS, while others represent different strains of Korean filmmaking shaped by the institutions and communities that the participating directors attended and/or currently live in. Many of these films are making international premieres through this touring showcase. This event does not intend to capture the entire breadth of the Korean avant-garde today, but provide a snapshot during a crucial time in its history and as a celebration of its growth and unceasing creativity.
